Morocco will create a National Child Welfare Agency to enhance the services provided to children across the Kingdom, Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi announced on Monday.
The agency, which will have branches across the various regions, is expected to offer professional, agricultural and educational training, Ouahbi pointed out at the opening of a national meeting on the implementation of the results of the National Forum on the protection of children in contact with the law, held on June 10-11.
The minister also highlighted the importance of training provided to children in correctional and penitentiary facilities, calling for integrating these children into the labor market.
Ouahbi also revealed that the government is planning to create centers for child addicts aimed at facilitating their integration into society.
The two-day meeting, hosted by the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in collaboration with UNICEF and supported by the European Union, featured plenary sessions addressing the current state, challenges and key issues related to children’s welfare.
