Royal Air Maroc (RAM), Morocco’s flag carrier, is considering the resumption of direct flights between Casablanca and Beijing in early 2025, following a four-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, local media reported, citing RAM sources.
In 2020, RAM operated three weekly flights to Beijing, but these were suspended due to the pandemic. Now, with an anticipated expansion of its aircraft fleet, RAM is ready to reintroduce direct flights between Morocco and China, a RAM insider told the press.
The reinstatement of direct flights is anticipated to stimulate Chinese tourism to Morocco. Following the kingdom’s decision to waive visa for Chinese nationals in 2015, the number of Chinese tourists surged to 180,000 in 2019. However, due to the impact of the pandemic, there was a significant decline in arrivals, with only 59,719 travelers from China in 2023.
