Twenty-three people were killed and 2,726 injured, 97 of them seriously, in the 1,960 road accidents that occurred in urban areas from May 27 to June 02, according to Morocco’s Police.
These accidents were mainly due to drivers’ inattention, failure to give priority, speeding, failure to keep a safe distance, loss of vehicles’ control and pedestrians’ inattention, General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) pointed out in a press release.
Regarding the control and repression of traffic offenses, police officers drew up 41,104 tickets, submitted 7,077 reports to the public prosecutor’s office and collected 34,027 transactional fines.
The sums collected from these fines amounted to around 7.5 million dirhams, DGSN said, adding that 3,949 vehicles were impounded, 7,077 documents seized and 193 vehicles were withdrawn from circulation during this period.
