National Police (DGSN) officers stationed at Bab Sebta crossing in north eastern Morocco apprehended a 36-year-old French citizen on Saturday, against whom an international arrest warrant had been issued based on his alleged involvement in drug trafficking, cigarette smuggling, and arms possession, the DGSN announced in a press release.
The individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, was on the verge of crossing the border to an unidentified destination.
After verifying the Interpol database, the police identified the individual as the subject of a “red notice” issued at the behest of French authorities, in connection with his presumed involvement in drug trafficking, contraband, and arms possession.
He was remanded into police custody pending further investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office.
The Interpol Bureau in Morocco has informed the relevant French authorities of the French national’s detention to initiate extradition procedures.
