The National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) has announced the issuing of daily predictive maps that would accurately identify high risk areas for wildfires from Thursday until the following Sunday.
Drawing on scientific data, these maps anticipate the outbreak of forest fire nationwide, ANEF said in a press release.
The agency noted that regions have been categorized according to their risk levels that vary depending on the forest cover/flora and its flammability, weather forecasts, and topographical specificities.
Regions identified as extreme high risk (red warning) include Tangier-Assilah, Fahs-Anjra, Al Hoceima, Nador, Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, Taza, Khénifra, and Beni Mellal.
High-risk areas (orange warning) include Larache, Chefchaouen, Ouezzane, Sefrou, Taroudant, Berkane, Driouch, Rabat, Skhirat-Témara, Salé, and Kenitra; while medium-risk areas (yellow warning) are Tetouan, M’diq-Fnideq, and Agadir-Ida Ou Tanane.
ANEF urged residents and workers near forests as well as visitors to exercise caution, avoid any activities that could start a fire, and to promptly report any smoke or suspicious behavior to local authorities.
