Panamanian cargo vessel, the “Toro Rosso,” exploded at Jorf Lasfar Port on the outskirts of the city of El Jadida on Thursday, causing a significant fire that killed three people and injured several more, according to well-informed sources.
Search and rescue teams rushed to the scene, including personnel from five agencies, among them Morocco’s civil protection services, the Ports Agency, the Maritime Gendarmerie, the National Police (DGSN), and the firefighting and rescue units of Morocco’s national phosphates and fertilizer organization, l’Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP).
Efforts to rescue the trapped ship’s crew are currently underway. The cause of the explosion is unknown.
