As Eid Al-Adha (the feast of sacrifice) approaches, the first trucks carrying 480 sheep have arrived in Tanger-Med Port in Tangier from Spain, Spanish outlet “La Razon” reported on Sunday. Their prices are expected to range from 1,800 to 3,000 MAD per sheep on the Moroccan market and will be sold from a local farm.
Morocco’s food safety watchdog (ONSSA) is responsible for processing the paperwork for the imported sheep which come from the Southern region of Spain.
Spanish sheep are typically less expensive than Moroccan sheep, which can cost up to 8,000 dirhams each.
According to the farm’s owner, the sheep are the first of many to be delivered from Spain in the coming days, perhaps totaling over 2,000 head of livestock.
