An undersea tremor measuring a low 4.5 on the Richter scale occurred in the region of Driouch in Northern Morocco early Monday morning, Morocco’s Al Aoula TV channel reported, citing a warning by the National Institute of Geophysics (ING).
The tremor, whose epicenter was located off the coast of Driouch, occurred exactly at 1:40 a.m., the institute said in a warning bulletin.
The 16-kilometer-deep tremor happened near the intersection of 35.531 degrees north latitude and 3.502 degrees west longitude, according to the same source.
On September 8, Morocco’s south-central region was hit by a much stronger 7 magnitude earthquake with its epicenter in Al Houz (south west of Marrakech), resulting in a significant number of casualties, nearly 3000 deaths, and widespread destruction.
