The International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) committee members, tasked with overseeing the implementation of United Nations drug control conventions, voted to reelect Morocco as president at the board’s 140th session, taking place in Vienna, Austria, from May 20-31.
Morocco’s re-election for INCB’s presidency in the name of Professor Jallal Toufiq is a testament to the country’s pivotal role in the global drug control debate, and to its commitment to fostering sub-regional, regional, and international collaboration in combating the international drug crisis.
In a statement published on its “X” social media account, Taoufiq expressed his honor at being re-elected. He commended newly elected executives, expressed gratitude to board members for their support, and lauded member states and partners for their cooperation throughout the previous year.
The INCB releases annual reports offering a comprehensive analysis of the global drug control situation.
Toufiq also serves as Director of the National Center for Prevention, Treatment, and Research in Addiction; the National Observatory on Drugs and Addiction; and Sale’s Ar-Razi Hospital for Mental and Psychiatric Diseases.
