A five-story building on Boulevard Al-Hank in the Moulay Youssef urban area collapsed on Thursday in the Bourgogne neighborhood (Casablanca), claiming no lives, according to the Casablanca-Anfa district prefecture statement.
The authorities had intervened earlier in the day to evacuate the building and other stores and structures in order to safeguard the area, after spotting alarming fissures in the building in question, which also caused the partial collapse of an adjacent building.
While works to clear the rubble from the fallen building continue, the criminal investigation department–which is overseen by the competent public prosecutor’s office–has begun to look into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, it was announced.
