US Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Samantha Power reiterated the United States’ support for a number of reforms Morocco has implemented concerning governance, education, and development, during a press briefing following a meeting with Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita on Wednesday in Rabat.
She applauded Morocco’s achievements in reform and growth, especially noting the Kingdom’s active involvement at the continental and regional levels, MAP news agency reported.
She recognized Morocco’s efforts to promote youth development and combat terrorism as well as the kingdom’s advances in renewable energy and combating climate change.
She also commended Moroccan officials for effectively managing the repercussions of the Sept. 8 earthquake.
Power was in Morocco on a working visit from May 19-22 to boost ties between Morocco and US and to highlight USAID’s collaboration with Moroccan local organizations to advance locally led development, a factor crucial to achieving long-term and significant results.
USAID is an independent agency of the United States government that was created in 1961. It is primarily responsible for administering civilian foreign aid and development assistance. With a budget of over $50 billion, USAID is one of the largest official aid agencies in the world and accounts for more than half of all U.S. foreign assistance—the highest in the world.
