Tetouan’s First Instance Court sentenced Anas Al Yemlahi, the Deputy Mayor of Tetouan, to 10 months in prison and a fine of 5,000 MAD on Monday for his involvement in a case of corruption and fraud related to a “job scam scandal” involving the Ministry of Justice.
Al Yemlahi, who is also a University Professor and Advisor to the former Minister of Justice, Mohamed Ben Abdelkader, was arrested on May 3 at Rabat Airport upon his return from abroad.
He was later incarcerated at the local “Somal” prison on charges of fraud, embezzlement, and breach of trust.
Al Yemlahi allegedly scammed victims into paying for promised employment within the Ministry of Justice.
A member of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), he reportedly accepted a 30,000 MAD bribe to secure a public service position for the complainant’s wife, leading to a lawsuit.
However, when the final results of the contested exam were released, it became evident that the complainant’s wife had not been admitted, revealing Al Yemlahi’s failure to fulfill his promise, at which point he was pressured to return the money.
He then proceeded to refund only a portion of the bribe, promising to pay the remaining amount later, a promise he did not keep.
