The Speaker of Finland’s Parliament, Jussi Halla-aho, said on Monday that Morocco is a “vital” partner for the European Union (EU) and, therefore, for Finland as a member state.
Halla-aho told the media following his meeting with the Speaker of Morocco’s Lower House, Rachid Talbi El Alami, that Morocco “is playing a pivotal role in partnership with the EU in the green energy transition, combating climate change, irregular migration, terrorism, extremism, and other issues of strategic importance.”
The Finnish official added that his country “strongly supports enhancing EU-Morocco relations.”
Halla-aho applauded the “excellent” relations between Morocco and Finland, countries which “share many values and ambitions” on the international stage, both being “ardent defenders of the rules-based international order.”
His visit to Morocco at the head of an important parliamentary delegation “reflects Finland’s desire to deepen the friendship between the two countries,” he said, confirming that he has extended an invitation to the Lower House Speaker to visit Finland with a Moroccan parliamentary delegation “to continue this distinguished dialogue.”
The Finnish official described the discussions with Talbi El Alami as “fruitful,” highlighting that he had learned much about Morocco’s reforms in key areas, which he said are “evident through the country’s continuous development path.”
