Morocco donated 200 tons of fertilizers to small farmers in Guatemala, distributing the essential product to around 10,000 families in seven districts of Totonicapán province, AgriMaroc reported today, citing Morocco’s diplomatic mission in Guatemala City.
With Morocco’s envoy to Guatemala Tarik Louajri and Guatemala’s Minister of Agriculture Maynor Estrada both present, Estrada thanked Morocco for its “generous” initiative, asking Ambassador Louajri to convey his sincere thanks to King Mohammed VI.
Estrada said that the donated fertilizer is “essential for rural development and the implementation of [the Guatemalan] government’s plans to reduce poverty and malnutrition.”
Governor of Totonicapán Delfina Garcia said that the initiative will help to reduce the province’s isolation and support efforts to improve its agricultural production and achieve self-sufficiency.
Ambassador Tarik Louajri said he was happy to be there and that the donation reflects “Morocco’s commitment to food security,” a priority advanced by King Mohammed VI.
He also reaffirmed the Kingdom’s desire to strengthen cooperation with Guatemala in all areas, particularly in agriculture and in combatting poverty.
Louajri noted the importance of South-South cooperation, a strategic pillar of Morocco’s foreign policy. He assured that Morocco is ready to continue working with Guatemalan President Bernardo Arevalo and his government to promote the progress and prosperity of the Guatemalan people.
Morocco’s fertilizer initiative is one of a series of gestures of solidarity toward friendly countries, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting sustainable development and food security throughout the world.
