Moroccan world and Olympic champion runner Soufiane El Bakkali won the 3,000 m steeplechase event for the second year in a row, at the 15th Mohammed VI International Athletics Meeting in Marrakech on Sunday, in the fourth stage of the Diamond League.
El Bekkali won coming in 8m9s40/100ths ahead of Ethiopian Wale Getnet, who clocked in at 8m9s78/100ths, and Kenyan Serem Amos (8m10s82/100ths).
The fourth stage of the Diamond League competition, held under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI, brought together athletes from all over the world, including Olympic and world champions.
In 2023, the Moroccan athlete won at least 7 gold medals in a number of competitions. The Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) selected him as the second-best male athlete of 2023.
