French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal is expected to make an official visit to Morocco on July 3-5, according to French economic and financial news outlet La Tribune, citing well-placed sources.
The visit will take place just a few days before the 2024 Summer Olympics that are scheduled from July 26 to August 11, 2024 in Paris.
Attal will be accompanied by several ministers, according to La Tribune, in a visit seen as a possible prelude to President Emmanuel Macron’s next state visit to Morocco, the date of which is still the subject of in-depth discussions between the Moroccan and French authorities.
With the security of the Olympic Games at the center of all discussions, particularly those between the intelligence services of the two countries, Paris is keen on speeding up cooperation with Morocco to combat terrorism, according to the same sources.
France is giving major consideration to the intelligence provided by Morocco to address the threats that may surround the athletic and other events it is hosting.
Several French Ministers have visited Morocco on work trips, including Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin and Minister of Economy Bruno Lemaire, to revive ties between the two States, following a major diplomatic crisis between the two countries, accentuated by a decision by the European Parliament in early 2023 involving allegations of corruption, money laundering, and participation in a criminal organization by members of the European Parliament allegedly involving Morocco and Qatar.
