Egypt’s Zamalek won the African Football Confederation (CAF) Cup title for the second time on Sunday evening, defeating Morocco’s RSB Berkane 1-0 in the second leg of the final at Cairo’s International Stadium.
Striker Ahmed Hamdi scored Zamalek’s decisive goal in the first half of the match (23rd minute).
While in the first leg played in Morocco a week ago, the Berkanis beat Zamalek 2-1, the two-time champion Moroccan club from the northeast (2020-2022) could not conquer the Egyptians in the second leg, in a repeat of the 2019 final where Zamalek won the cup in a shootout.
RSB had a remarkable season in the Confederation Cup, being the only undefeated team to have reached the return match of the championship with a tally of eight wins–two of which were forfeit wins against USM Alger after the dispute over the Moroccan team’s jersey in the semifinals –and three draws.
