On Saturday, a group of children who experienced the Sept. 08 devastating quake traveled, from the Tizi N’Test town (Taroudant, south of Morocco) to Agadir, to visit the 5th Open House that the National Police (DGSN) and Territory Surveillance services (DGST) are hosting to celebrate their 68th anniversary.
The visit is part of efforts made to assist earthquake victims and provide them with psychological and social support. It is organized jointly by the DGSN and National Human Rights watchdog (CNDH).
Brigadier General Mumtaz Mohamed Egber, from the Judicial Police Directorate, told MAP that the children had the chance to check all the exhibition stands, including the earthquake stand, which provides information on the natural disaster as well as safety measures to be taken when one is faced with such happening.
Mohamed Charef, President of the Souss Massa Regional Committee for Human Rights, stated that this visit is in line with CNDH’s activities and future plans to offer support to earthquake victims. He noted that the tour is an opportunity to inform children of the DGSN’s and CNDH’s human rights work, create a human rights culture, and broaden their knowledge of security professions.
The DGSN & DGST Open House is open to the public and is free of charge. It will run in Agadir until May 21. This year’s edition seeks to build communication bridges with the citizens by giving them a glimpse into the different police departments’ tasks, in a format that combines both learning and entertainment.
