Casablanca Anti-Gang Squad thwarted a trafficking operation on Friday evening, involving a large catch of psychotropic drugs of around 62,550 tablets. Three suspects aged 27 to 46 were arrested in the sting operation, according to security sources.
One of the suspects is wanted by the Casablanca judicial police for his alleged involvement in a theft case.
The traffickers were aboard a four-wheel drive (4X4) with the drug load, on the road from El Jadida to Casablanca.
A thorough search resulted in the seizure of an electronic scale, two kilograms and 700 grams of the synthetic drug MDMA (ecstasy), as well as a sum of money which could be the bounty of this criminal activity.
The suspects are now in custody pending further investigation under the public prosecution.
Police routinely conduct sting operations to clamp down on drug traffickers and dealers, and stymie international trafficking of narcotics, cannabis resin and psychotropic pills.
