American berry giant Driscoll’s Maroc recently inaugurated the construction of a berry processing plant in the Loukkos agricultural hub, located to the south of Larache, according to Spanish-speaking news outlet Atalayar.
Spanning over five hectares, the facility represents a substantial investment of approximately 150 million MAD. The project will help create 500 job opportunities and elevate Larache’s profile as a beacon of agricultural innovation and economic prosperity.
The governor of the province of Larache, Bouassam El Alamine, representatives of the Regional Investment Center of the Tangier- Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region (CRITTA), and others attended the opening.
Driscoll’s expressed gratitude towards the Regional Investment Center for its unwavering assistance, acknowledging the instrumental role played in expediting processes ranging from site selection to permit acquisition.
The American giant–known for its licensed partnerships with new berry producers–is consolidating its investments outside the U.S. border, especially in Europe, South Africa, Australia, China and Morocco.
In addition to the two facilities in the Gharb region–specifically in Moulay Bousselham and Agadir–, Driscoll’s seeks to expand its presence in Dakhla, considering the city a perfect location for cultivating blueberries, as the fruit can be harvested two to three weeks earlier than in other regions due to its favorable climatic conditions.
