Young Moroccan tennis player Aya El Aouni claimed victory in the W15/18A tennis tournament in Antalya, Turkey, after her Russian opponent Valeriya Yushchenko withdrew on Sunday.
The Russian player abandoned the game in mid-play as El Aouni was leading 6-2, 2-0.
Ranked 788th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), Aya had beaten Kazakhstan’s Sandugash Kenzhibayeva in the semi-finals in two sets (6-3, 6-0), while Yushchenko had qualified at the expense of Slovenia’s Anika Jaskova (6-4, 6-4)
This is the 18-year-old Moroccan’s second consecutive title in the Antalya Series of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), after her victory last week against the same opponent, Yushchenko, in the final of the Antalya W15/17A tournament. She won by two sets to one (2-6, 7-6, 6.3).
