Tourism accommodation establishments in Tangier- Assilah region recorded 245,109 overnight stays in the first quarter alone of 2024, according to the National Tourism Observatory (ONT).
The overall number of stays declined, compared to Q1 2023, when it exceeded 303,000. According to the Observatory, these institutions’ occupancy rate stood at 33%, a decrease from over 42%.
Despite this setback, Tangier remained Morocco’s fourth most visited tourist destination. The month of March only registered 69,784 overnight stays–the occupancy rate of which stood at approximately 35%–while maintaining a steady influx of visitors, albeit at a reduced rate.
In national rankings, Marrakech took the top spot with 2.15 million overnight stays, followed by Agadir with 1.32 million and Casablanca with 430,000. Rabat ranked fifth with 186,000 overnight stays.
The Kingdom attracted 3.92 million tourists in Q1 2024, an uptick of over 13% versus the equivalent period a year prior.
