Moroccan international football player, Ayoub El Kaabi playing for Greek team Olympiakos, set an incredible record for himself on Thursday, becoming the first player to score five goals in the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League (UEFA), since Porto’s Radamel Falcao scored five in the Europa League of 2011-2012. The goals put El Kaabi’s team through to the competition final.
A week after taking an option following their 2-4 win at British Aston Villa, Olympiakos qualified for the final of the Europa League Conference with a 2-0 victory on home turf on Thursday evening in the second leg of their semi-final.
As in the first leg, the Greek hero was Ayoub El Kaabi. Having scored a hat-trick in England, the Moroccan center-forward at Karaiskakis Stadium took his total number of goals to five over the two matches.
Not even the Ivorian Didier Drogba, who scored 11 goals for OM in the Champions League and later the UEFA Cup in 2003-2004, has performed better. Nor his compatriot Sébastien Haller (11 goals in LdC from 2021 to 2022).
Similarly, El Kaabi outperformed Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah (10 goals in LdC in 2017-2018), Samuel Eto’o (9 titles with Anzhi), and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Signed for a season last summer, since then El Kaabi has scored 32 goals and provided 2 assists in 46 appearances. All in all, a more than successful year.
The Europa Conference League final will take place on May 29 between Fiorentina and Olympiakos.
