Mohamed Sadiki, Morocco’s Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forestry, led a high-level delegation, on Tuesday, to the ministerial preparatory meeting for the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit (AFSH) 2024, organized jointly by the African Union (AU) and the Kenyan government and scheduled to commence on Thursday.
The Moroccan delegation includes Morocco’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the AU and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Mohamed Arrouchi.
The three-day gathering seeks to adopt a Decennial Action Plan, providing recommendations to African governments and agricultural stakeholders through the next decade.
It will guide future policies and investments focused on improving soil health and fertilizer efficiency, enabling farmers to offer significant contributions to agricultural development.
Along with the Action Plan, participants are expected to adopt the Nairobi Declaration on Fertilizers and Soil Health, as well as the framework for the Soil Initiative for Africa. These initiatives intend to reassess current strategies to boost soil productivity and ensure sustainable yields for the benefit of African citizens.
The upcoming Summit, scheduled for Thursday, will bring together African heads of state, government officials, private sector actors, civil society representatives, NGOs, and academics.
