Today in Rabat, Khalid Ait Taleb, Minister of Health and Social Protection, hosted the Director-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Gilbert Fossoun Houngbo, who is on an official visit to the Kingdom.
During the meeting of the two officials, Houngbo expressed his admiration for the commendable development of the health and social protection sector in the Kingdom of Morocco owing to the Royal directives, thus rendering the nation a role model in offering universal health coverage to all Moroccans, inclusive of informal sector operators.
He complimented Morocco’s commitment to ensuring decent living conditions for all citizens and called for increased cooperation and coordination to set the bar even higher in this field.
The head of the ILO further expressed his desire to expand bilateral connections between Morocco and the International Labor Organization in the fields of health and social protection.
Morocco signed several international conventions in 2019 intended for the improvement of social security, workplace health and safety, and protection of migrant workers in the territory, all in an attempt to promote public health.
One of the most significant benchmarks to which the Kingdom is now a signatory involves the Social Insurance Convention, which promotes the establishment of a tripartite mechanism to encourage constructive dialogue between governments, employers, and employees.
Morocco has also ratified two other agreements, one related to the promotional framework for professional safety and health, adopted in 2006, which illustrates the country’s ongoing commitment to improving working conditions and workers’ safety.
The other agreement concerns the safeguarding of the rights of immigrant workers, reflecting our nation’s adherence to the protection of human rights of this valued demographic.
