The Administrative Court of Casablanca accepted the request of the Mers al-Sultan al-Fida prefecture governor to dismiss the head of the Mers Sultan district, Mohamed Boudrika, from his position, due to his absence from the exercise of his duties.
The judgment came after the president of the Court examined the fact that Boudrika had been absent from his workplace for more than three months.
The appropriate authorities had previously issued a warning to Boudrika to resume his duties at the district council.
The request was prompted by Boudrika’s prolonged absences, which have hampered the operation of a number of essential services for residents, users and businesses with contracts within the district.
Mohamed Touimi Benjelloun, MP for the same district, is likely to take over as head of the Mers Sultan district at an ad hoc session to be convened for the purpose of electing a new leader.
Mohamed Boudrika is currently abroad receiving “medical treatment,” according to his statements to several media outlets.
In March, the chairman of Raja Casablanca, one of Morocco’s leading football clubs, was given a suspended one-year prison sentence by the Casablanca criminal court for issuing a bad cheque, and was fined 232,500 dirhams.
Boudrika, 41, a high-profile property developer, is a member of the management committee of the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), a member of the Rassemblement National des Indépendants (RNI, majority party), and has been a member of Parliament since 2021.
