Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Gambian Counterpart Mamadou Tangara inaugurated the Kingdom’s first Embassy in Banjul, Gambia’s capital, on Friday.
The Moroccan diplomatic representation in Banjul was inaugurated ahead of the 15th Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit Conference, which kicked off on Saturday at the “Dauda Kairaba Diawara” International Conference Center, in the presence of leaders and heads of government of member countries.
The Gambian Foreign Minister expressed his delight at attending the inauguration of the Moroccan Embassy alongside his Moroccan counterpart, emphasizing that the establishment of this diplomatic representation will help Gambians discover and become familiar with the Kingdom.
The Minister noted that Gambia was the first country to open a consulate general in Dakhla, and praised the two countries’ outstanding relations.
Gambian officials, representatives of the diplomatic corps and consuls of European and African countries accredited in Banjul, members of the Moroccan delegation participating in the Summit, members of the Moroccan community in the Gambia, and Ahmed Belhaj, Chargé d’Affaires of the Moroccan Embassy in this country, were all in attendance.
The new embassy is reflective of the close and distinguished ties between King Mohammed VI and President Adama Barrow, a fact that helped the Moroccan-Gambian relations see an unprecedented momentum.
