Moroccan maestro and violinist Ahmed Hbicha succumbed to his injuries Wednesday morning at a clinic in Casablanca as a result of a serious car accident. His friend, percussionist Issam Fahmi, was also a passenger in the vehicle involved in the Monday evening crash on Zerktouni Street, in Casablanca. Both were critically injured and hospitalized.
Hbicha fell into a coma due to a traumatic brain injury and suffered multiple fractures, serious wounds, and internal bleeding in the abdomen.
Despite undergoing two surgeries, his condition worsened, leading to his demise. Fahmi, who sustained several fractures, has regained consciousness, however.
Habicha was among the most skilled violinists in Morocco and throughout the Arab world. During his career, he accompanied many renowned artists at countless music festivals and events both in Morocco and internationally. In addition to his performances, he conducted orchestras at world-renowned musical events and worked as a music instructor.
