Police in France confirmed the deaths of at least four individuals in two different Paris apartment buildings that were destroyed by fire on Tuesday.
According to reports, three of the bodies were discovered just after 8:00 A.M. in a seventh-floor flat near the Opera Garnier in the center of the French city.
Ariel Weil, Mayor of the City’s four core districts, said that those slain were unable to escape via the window due to bars being placed in a position so as to prevent criminals from entering from the roof.
He further stated that firemen were able to rescue approximately ten persons residing on the same floor.
Weil and a police source said investigators were looking into whether the incident transpired due to a gas leak. Prosecutors are also investigating a second fatal fire in the 15th area of western Paris, near the Eiffel Tower.
“A 60-year-old person was found dead and another is in critical condition, with two in serious condition,” police stated.
A second police source indicated that a woman was murdered after a fire broke out in her flat.
