The National Police (DGSN) in Casablanca apprehended two Chinese nationals, aged 36 and 38, on Saturday afternoon for their suspected involvement in acts of fraud and phreaking, purportedly by tampering with automated data processing systems and hacking phone calls, a security source reported.
Preliminary investigation data showed that the accused were involved in hacking national communication networks, using a criminal modus operandi by exploiting electronic devices to divert international phone calls to the local network and taking advantage of tariff differentials.
Police officers arrested the suspects in a residence in Casablanca’s “Belvedere” neighborhood. Wireless devices, electronic equipment, and thousands of national phone SIM cards believed to be used in the criminal activities were found during house search.
The suspects are now in custody pending further investigation under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office, which is looking at any potential participants or accomplices connected to this cybercrime.
