Agents from the Spanish Civil Guard and customs officials stationed at the port of Algeciras (in southern Spain) successfully seized a staggering 25 tons of cannabis resin on Friday. The narcotics were meticulously concealed in a cargo truck supposedly transporting melons from Morocco to France, according to France Press Agency (AFP).
The illegal substance, valued at 50 million euros, was concealed in 22 wooden crates inside the vehicle, which, according to documents presented to the authorities, was destined to transport the fruit to Perpignan, south of France.
After a civil guard agent with a sniffer dog raised the alarm, authorities conducted a thorough search of the truck and discovered the drug, the largest catch using the Spanish transportation network since 2015, according to the same source.
In 2015, authorities had seized nearly 48 tons of cannabis resin concealed in trucks in the same port of Algeciras.
