The African Football Confederation (CAF) Appeals Committee has upheld the decision of the Confederation’s club commission, dismissing the Algerian club USM Alger’s appeal on Friday. This decision reaffirms Morocco’s RS Berkane default victory 3-0 in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final, following a dispute over jerseys depicting Morocco’s full map.
The CAF statement affirmed the club commission’s decision to refer the matter to the CAF Disciplinary Committee for potential additional sanctions. It also made it clear that all other motions or requests for relief have been dismissed.
The USM Alger delegation arrived on Friday at Oujda-Angad Airport around 5 p.m. aboard a special flight from Algiers, and was received by Berkane’s officials. They headed to Saïdia, northeast of Morocco, where they will stay until their match.
In an earlier statement before landing in Morocco, the Algerian Confederation emphasized their stance, asserting that they would decline to participate in the second leg match slated for Sunday, at Berkane Municipal Stadium at 8 p.m., if the Moroccan players were to wear the same jerseys again.
