French anti-terrorism officials captured a 16-year-old youngster in Haute-Savoie (eastern France) after he stated on social media that he intended to die as a martyr at the Olympic Games in Paris this summer, according to French media.
He was caught after openly announcing on social media, particularly his Telegram account, that he intended to make an explosive belt and become a martyr.
An inquiry was conducted to determine whether the youth had actual plans to perform a terrorist attack. Investigators found notebooks outlining his criminal intentions as well as a letter of allegiance to the Islamic State (IS).
Another seventeen-year-old girl was arrested while “hospitalized in a psychiatric ward.”
The French government has asked approximately 45 other nations to provide several thousand additional military police and civilians to help secure the Paris Olympics this summer.
