Morocco’s Attorney General and Head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office El Hassan Daki and his Russian counterpart, Igor Krasnov, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Friday in Rabat to promote bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the domain of public prosecution.
The MoU facilitates the exchange of expertise, experience, and efficient administrative procedures with respect to the public prosecutor’s office, and is intended to strengthen cooperation in criminal matters, particularly money laundering, drug trafficking, and human trafficking.
It also calls for training sessions, the exchange of expert visits, collaboration in the sphere of investor’s rights protections, and cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
Daki highlighted Morocco’s experience with judicial independence in accordance with the 2011 Constitution, as well as the roles and responsibilities of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the Kingdom’s various courts. He focused on their role in strengthening the rule of law and overseeing other judicial functions and professions and penitentiary facilities.
Krasnov underlined his country’s desire to strengthen judicial cooperation with Morocco. Signing this MoU, he said, will provide potential opportunities for the sharing of judicial experiences and best practices.
Morocco and Russia signed an agreement in September 2006 governing the extradition of convicts sentenced to prison.
