A household survey for the first quarter of 2024 indicated that only 9.3% of families project being able to save over the course of this year, compared to 90.7% who predict an inability to do so, according to Morocco’s Statistics and Forecasts Office (HCP) report published on Friday.
The balance of opinion on this indicator stood at -81.4 points, both down compared to the previous quarter and when compared to the same quarter of the previous year, when it stood at -80.7 points and -76.1 points, respectively.
In Q1 2024, 96.9% of households reported an increase in food costs over the previous year.
The opinion balance remained negative, at -96.5 points.
Just over 76% of households expect food costs to rise even more over the next year, while only about 6% expect them to stabilize.
The balance of opinion remained negative at -70.1 points–compared to -77.6 points a quarter earlier–and -69.8 points a year ago.
