Morocco and the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, a dual-island nation situated between the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, announced on Wednesday that they will conclude a new cooperation roadmap for the next three years (2024-2026) to strengthen and expand the two parties’ cooperation.
In a joint press release issued following the discussions between Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Economic Development, and Investment for Saint Kitts and Nevis, Denzil Llewellyn Douglas, the two parties expressed their desire to deepen and further consolidate their cooperation through the exchange of experiences and know-how in various areas of common interest.
Bourita and Douglas, who highly praised the current level of relations between the two countries, discussed several issues related to the current state and prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation to meet the aspirations and ambitions of both friendly countries.
The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis commended the cooperation program launched by the Kingdom of Morocco in 2013 in agriculture through the provision of fertilizers that have greatly benefited farmers in member countries of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, as well as in the sectors of health, tourism, and human resource development.
Bourita commended the results of the elections held on August 5, 2022 in Saint Kitts and Nevis, which are an integral part of maintaining good governance, prosperity, and stability in the Eastern Caribbean sub-region, the joint press release stated.
Denzil Llewellyn Douglas reiterated his country’s consistent position “in favor of Morocco’s sovereignty over the territory of the Sahara and the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.”
In a statement to the press, Douglas also reaffirmed his country’s support for the UN-led political process for a “just and lasting solution to this regional dispute,” based on Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as the “only credible, serious, and realistic solution.”
“The Moroccan initiative is in complete accordance with International Law, the United Nations Charter, the resolutions of the UN General Assembly and Security Council,” the joint press release asserted.
The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis also praised the socio-economic development in the Sahara region due to Morocco’s efforts and investments under the New Development Model for the Southern provinces.
The New Development Model has significantly promoted the empowerment of the populations in these provinces and improved human development indicators in the region.
The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, as a member of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States opened its embassy in Rabat on October 19, 2018, and a consulate general in Dakhla on March 31, 2022.
