Pedro Sanchez, President of Spain’s Government, affirmed on Monday his expectation for huge success at the 2030 World Cup, co-organized by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, during a joint press conference with Portugal’s Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, at the Moncloa Palace in Madrid.
Sanchez commended the three countries’ mutual passion for football. Being “deeply intertwined with the sport,” he said that the trio’s lengthy record of organizing sports events and competitions, as well as the exceptional organizational skills in comparison to other countries will make for a successful event despite ongoing corruption skepticism within the Spanish Football Federation.
“I am sure that the [2030] World Cup will be a great success with a friendly country like Morocco,” Sanchez said.
Portugal’s Prime Minister echoed Sanchez’s sentiments, confirming the three countries’ steadfast commitment to ensuring the global event’s success.
He recognized the World’s Cup importance not only in sports, but also in terms of its economic and cultural aspects, and the opportunities it creates.
Last Friday, Gianni Infantino, the President of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), and Alejandro Dominguez, Head of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), officially finalized hosting rights for the first three matches of the Morocco-Spain-Portugal 2030 World Cup to be played in Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina. There is no information yet concerning the final match placement and timing.
A few weeks ago, representatives from the Joint Morocco-Spain-Portugal Bid Commission for the FIFA 2030 World Cup held a special “reveal” ceremony, where they unveiled the slogan, logo, bid video clip, social media handles, and special football ambassadors at a gathering in Portugal.
