Morocco’s Statistics and Forecasts Office (HCP) announced in a press release on Monday the launch of a system overhaul of its national employment survey in Morocco to track the labor market situation.
This directive comes in response to the rapid transformations in the work environment, driven by the digital revolution, and the need to adapt to the changing socioeconomic dynamics in Morocco.
The updating process will involve revising the conceptual framework, sampling methodology, and thematic coverage of the survey to better understand the impact of the digital revolution on the future of the labor market, to monitor the dynamics of new forms of employment, and to incorporate new international standards for producing labor market statistics set by the International Labour Organization.
The survey’s sampling methodology will be revised to measure results quarterly, along with the usual annual comparison, and to improve the territorial accuracy of the results at regional and provincial levels.
New themes such as green employment and labor migration will also be explored to provide a comprehensive picture of the labor market landscape in Morocco.
The HCP will work closely with key ministerial departments, public and private stakeholders, and experts from the International Labour Organization to ensure the success of this overhaul, according to the press release.
The process is expected to take place over the next two years, with the implementation of the new labor market observation system scheduled for 2026.
This calendar year will be dedicated to designing and testing the new system, while 2025 will see a parallel survey conducted alongside the current one to evaluate the impact of the changes on labor market indicators.
