The Moroccan national futsal team thrashed Ghana 8-3 and made it straight to the semifinals, Saturday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, as part of the 2nd day (group A) of the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), which runs until April 21 in Morocco.
Each of Youssef Jouad, Soufiane El Mesrar, and Soufian Charraoui scored twice, while Bilal Bakkali and Khalid Bouzid netted one goal each. Ghana’s goals were scored by Prince Arthur and Philip Boye.
Hicham Dguig’s men dominated the first half, and managed to widen the divide in the second half thanks to a penalty after eight minutes of play.
Michael Ruttmern, Ghana’s goalkeeper, shone through in the second part of the encounter, stopping several strikes from the national team.
The Moroccan team leads Group A with six points from two victories over Angola and Ghana.
The eight qualified teams for this tournament were divided into two groups. Morocco, Angola, Ghana, and Zambia are the double-title holders in Group A, while Egypt, Libya, Namibia, and Mauritania make up Group B.
The first three teams in this African competition will qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup, which will be contested in Uzbekistan from September 14 to October 6.
