A group of Moroccan filmmakers and producers created “Morocco’s Chamber of Amazigh Cinematography Production” recently, to reinforce Morocco’s cinema industry and film production capacity, according to a press release issued by the founders of the new organization.
Given the importance of cinema in disseminating Amazigh culture and identity, this is the first ever platform to promote Amazigh filmmaking in Morocco with a focus on implementing the provisions of Morocco’s Constitution that recognize the Amazigh language and culture as an integral part of Morocco’s national heritage.
The chamber will represent the interests of professionals working in the field of Amazigh film production. It is intended to unite the forces of producers, directors and the various artistic and technical staff working in Amazigh cinema, set up a sustainable system to promote the industry, improve working conditions, and seek technical and logistical resources capable of promoting the growth of Amazigh cinema through partnerships with various institutions.
The Chamber’s executive board is comprised of President Ayoub El Mahjoub, Vice-President Ayoub Ait Bihi, Secretary General Lahcen Fareh, Treasurer Abdelhak El Haddioui, and Advisor Abderrahman El Alami.
