Head of the Cabinet of the Presidency of Spain’s Government Oscar Lopez has denounced accusations that Morocco spied on the phone of Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez using Pegasus software, calling them “fake news” and “conspiracy theories.”
Addressing the joint committee of National Security at Spain’s Congress of Deputies, López expressed his surprise at “certain suspicions and conspiracy theories” typical of “the far-right” and criticized insinuations regarding “what might be found” on the minister’s phone or the involvement of Morocco.
“Such fake news and slander do not affect national security or the public interest and rather constitute a disinformation campaign,” Lopez asserted.
The Spanish official noted that the Spanish National Court had closed the Pegasus case in July 2023 due to a lack of evidence.
