An attack on a detachment in the locality of Tawori, East of Burkina Faso, resulted in the killing of at least 73 people last Sunday at around 5 p.m., international media reported.
The JNIM, an al-Qaeda affiliate, claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack, which targeted civilians, military personnel, and local volunteers.
Assailants riding motorcycles stormed the village and engaged in a one-hour exchange of fire before taking control of the camp.
The attackers looted and rampaged through the camp for two hours before fleeing, causing significant damage, according to reports.
The death toll included 32 civilians, 16 members of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), and 25 Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).
Several soldiers have gone missing, and it is believed that they were captured by JNIM.
