Former Senegalese Prime Minister Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne died on Friday at the age of 65 due to an illness, Senegalese Press Agency (APS) reported.
Dionne served as Head of Government between 2014 and 2019. He fell ill amidst the March electoral campaign and was rushed to France for treatment the day before the presidential elections, according to the news agency.
Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye expressed his condolences on Dionne’s passing, stating in a Facebook post, “the nation lost one of its most respected servants, a devoted and precious man.”
“To his family, I offer my sincerest condolences. My thoughts are with them during this period of sadness,” the newly-elected Head of State added.
