Morocco snatched second place from Spain in volumes of tomato exports to the United Kingdom, after having widened the gap by 67.42% in 2023, “FreshPlaza” reported last week, citing an analysis by “Hortoinfo” based on UN statistical data.
Morocco exported an additional 44.64 Mln kilos in 2023, reaching 84.92%, or 57.69 million kilograms more than Spain, reflecting the trade dynamics and supply preferences.
When comparing numbers from 2014 to 2023, the UK’s total tomato imports fell by 10.79%, from 413.16 million kilos to 368.56 million. However, the value of these imports has risen, and the average price per kilogram was greater in 2023.
The Netherlands remained the leading supplier of tomatoes to the British market in 2023, with 129.42 million kilos; nonetheless, it saw a considerable decrease from 2014.
Morocco came in second, selling 125.62 million kilograms in 2023, a significant increase from 2014. Meanwhile, Spain has lost some of its share of the British market, ranking third with 67.93 million kilos sold in 2023, a 46.44% decrease from 2014.
