Morocco’s national beach soccer team clinched the winning title at the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations’ (COSAFA) tournament on Saturday, after a tense final against Mozambique, at Durban’s South Beach Arena, in South Africa.
Following a 4-4 tie during regulation time, Morocco secured the trophy in a 4-3 penalty shootout.
Zouhir Jabbari, Adnan Oubahri, Badr El Kraichly, and Yasser Abada all made goals contributing to Morocco’s victory.
Led by Senegalese Coach Oumar Sylla, the squad played a challenging competition.
Rebounding from a loss to Angola in the group stage, the Atlas Lions defeated Tanzania 2-1 in their last group match. They also beat Malawi in the semifinals by 9-6.
Abada, the Lions’ goalkeeper received the Golden Glove award for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament.
The COSAFA tournament also serves as a qualifier for the upcoming Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations 2024, scheduled to take place in Egypt.
