MP of former Al-Ahd Party and founder of the “Movement of September 18,” Said Chaou, disavowed Algerian allegations of links between the movement and the office representing the so-called “Republic of Rif,” sharing the Movement’s statement on his Facebook account recently.
Chaou, who has been in exile in the Netherlands for some eight years, said that those who collaborate with the Algerian regime have no connection whatsoever with the movement.
The movement’s statement said that Morocco’s internal issues should stay in Morocco without any need for “external hands” which “only care about their own interests” and disrupt the political solution.
The Movement of September 18’s ideology is based on international conventions on freedom of self-determination, and projects the voice of the Rif’s members, who conveyed during Rif Hirak that they are not separatists, and that Algeria had sought to exploit this tension to achieve its goals.
