The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of several dignitaries including the Minister of National Education and Sport, Minister of Youth and Culture, Minister of Higher Education, along with Faouzi Lekjaa, Head of FRMF, and Mehdi Qotbi, President of the National Museum Foundation.
Various generations of football stars, sports figures, and FRMF board members such as Salaheddine Bassir Badou Zaki, Marouane Chamakh, Noureddine Naybet, Ahmed Makrouh, and Achraf Hakimi were also present at the ceremony.
In a press statement, Lekjaa said that the Moroccan Football Museum’s inauguration, in collaboration with the National Museum’s Foundation, “is a crucial initiative that will aid in preserving the country’s footballing history and enriching its cultural heritage.”
He also stated that the new 2,100 square meter facility will play a significant role in documenting Moroccan football memories, legends, clubs, and infrastructure.
Lekjaa praised the initiative for passing on this valuable heritage to future younger generations, celebrating both the past and present achievements of Moroccan football.
The museum’s curator outlined that the facility’s permanent exhibition presents a comprehensive look at the rich history and highlights of Moroccan soccer, through six spaces.
The first space, “Enlightened Royal Vision,” showcases a unique perspective endorsed by three kings who elevated football as a distinguished means of expression for Moroccans.
He noted that the other sections deal with important themes in accordance with a global vision, namely “The Land of Pioneers,” “The Land of Excellence,” “The Gallery of Celebrities,” “A Hospitable Land,” and “The Land of Passion.”
The museum chronicles the history of national football since 1906, through photographs and trophies, enabling visitors to explore the journey of national teams and clubs, and offering insights into the accomplishments of Moroccan players.
