Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva received Morocco’s Ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, on Wednesday, for a working meeting ahead of the World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings to be held in Washington April 17-19, on the prospects for cooperation between Morocco and the IMF.
During the meeting, Georgieva lauded Morocco’s effective preparations for last year’s successful World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings held in Marrakech in October 2023.
The IMF offqicial recognized Morocco’s “tremendous economic achievements” under the nearly 25 year reign of King Mohammed VI, as well as Morocco’s strong socio-economic development.
She also stated that Morocco is “an example” of resilience, especially in its post-earthquake management involving targeted and successful government initiatives.
Amrani acknowledged Morocco’s long-standing cooperation with the IMF, which has resulted in concrete actions taken through technical assistance programs and, more recently, financing mechanisms such as the Flexible Credit Line and the Resilience and Sustainability Facility.
The Ambassador outlined the fundamental pillars of government policies aimed at strengthening macroeconomic balances and successfully implementing Morocco’s development plans in various areas.
He also emphasized the significance of modernizing Bretton Woods institutions in order to give Africa a better voice, adapt to new socioeconomic issues, and promote more inclusive multilateralism.
The working meeting is a continuation of the major successes made at the Annual Meetings in Marrakech, and it underlines Morocco and the IMF’s shared desire to expand their partnership to foster sustainable and equitable economic growth in the Kingdom.
