Algeria’s president Abdelmajid Tebboune chaired a meeting on Thursday in preparation for the upcoming presidential election, which is set to take place on Sept. 7, as per the official announcement made after the meeting.
The election was initially scheduled for December, marking the end of Tebboune’s five-year term, then moved to September.
Under the country’s constitution, Tebboune can still run for a second term in office, but he has not yet announced or declined his candidacy.
The meeting was attended notably by speakers of both houses of parliament as well as the Chief of the army’s general staff.
