José Manuel Albares, Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation, asserted the imperative need for robust relations with Morocco, labeling it a “pivotal partner” across multiple domains, in an address before Spain’s Senate on Tuesday.
The head of Spain’s diplomatic division informed the audience that “Morocco is a pivotal partner in the fight against terrorism, the eradication of jihadist cells, and the combating of illegal migration, along with its contribution to the Spanish economic sector.”
He said that commercial trade between the two countries has climbed to over €21 billion, with over 17,000 Spanish enterprises exporting goods to Morocco.
Albares underscored the profound human connections between the two countries, adding, “Around one million Moroccans have made Spain their home, while 17,000 Spaniards have chosen to live in Morocco.”
